About IDRA

International Desalination and Reuse Association – IDRA is a global organization connecting the desalination and water reuse community since 1973.

With members in over 60 countries, we serve as a platform for professionals from various sectors, including science, engineering, government, and academia.

As a recognized NGO by the United Nations, IDRA is vital in promoting sustainable water solutions worldwide.

About the Summit

Held under the patronage of Hon. Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Minister of the Environment, Energy, and Climate for the Government of Iceland, the IDRA 2025 Reykjavik Summit on Water and Climate Change will address the challenges of climate change affecting water scarcity. It will focus on expanding water reuse, advancing innovative desalination solutions, and strengthening the water-energy-food nexus.

Bringing together professionals from diverse sectors—including private, public, financial, industrial, municipal, national, international, and multilateral stakeholders—the summit aims to foster collaboration, drive technological innovation, and spotlight financing solutions through guarantees, tariffs, and PPP project models. Discussions will emphasize shared responsibility, collective action, integrating renewable energy, increased water reuse in industrial operations, and water stewardship to protect natural resources. Additionally, the need for institutional and operational capacity building to ensure effective policy implementation, sustainable project execution, and long-term resilience will be addressed.

By advancing scalable strategies for climate resilience and sustainable water management,  contributions to the efficient and integrated use of vital resources can ensure global protection of precious water resources.

In conjunction
with the Arctic
Circle Assembly
2025

The Arctic Circle is the largest network of international dialogue and cooperation on the future of the Arctic and our Planet. It is an open
democratic platform with participation from governments, organizations, corporations, universities, think tanks, environmental associations, indigenous communities, concerned citizens, and others. It is nonprofit and nonpartisan. The Arctic Circle Assembly has been held every year during the month of October since 2013 at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center in Iceland, with over 2000 participants from more than 60 countries.

Critical Discussions

Climate change adaptation

How can we contribute to building a roadmap for climate change adaptation with an integrated  water resource management transition?

Moving towards diversification of water sources

How to unlock institutional,
technological and financial lock-ins for meaningful progress toward diversifying water supply sources through scaling up water reuse, desalination, and renewable energy?

Expanding on successful examples

If adaptation and circularity are rational behaviors, do they not happen spontaneously? Why are successful examples hard to scale up?

Global Leadership to Address Water Scarcity

IDRA has been convening internationally since 1973,
promoting sustainability for our most precious resource, water.
