Water and Climate Change
Water scarcity affects 40% of the world’s population, with 80% of wastewater discharged untreated into the environment and over 90% of natural disasters being water-related. Climate change is intensifying these challenges, driving more frequent and severe droughts and floods, and threatening global water security. Combined with underinvestment in municipal, industrial, and agricultural water infrastructure, the world faces significant water losses, inefficiencies, and a growing crisis that demands immediate action.
To address these urgent issues, the IDRA Reykjavik Summit on Water and Climate Change will convene from October 12-14, 2025, at the iconic Harpa Opera House in Reykjavik, Iceland. Coinciding with the Arctic Circle Assembly, this Summit brings together global leaders, experts, and stakeholders to explore innovative solutions for water and climate challenges, emphasizing the critical role of water reuse and desalination in addressing water scarcity.
The Summit will address climate change adaptation and its synergies with mitigation strategies.
